consumed 474,619,900 GJ of coal and
emitted 42,895,310 GHG tonnes.
 
Most of the coal consumed by Alberta industries is used to generate electricity. Since electricity generation makes up a large part of Alberta's industrial base when looking at energy consumption, coal equates to 18.30% of total industrial energy use.
