In 2010, industry
consumed 1,224,326,000 GJ of natural gas and
emitted 61,366,190 GHG tonnes.
Natural gas is widely used throughout Alberta's industrial sector, representing 47.21% of its total consumption.
Much of the natural gas goes to fuel cogeneration plants at large industrial sites. Natural gas has also become the fuel of choice for a growing number of medium sized electricity generating plants in the province, some of which are located on site at oil sands mining locations.
