Alberta has three oil refineries, all located in the Industrial Heartland east of Edmonton.
In 2010, this sector
used 309,156,300 GJ that directly
emitted 17,627,380 GHG tonnes.
Refineries in Alberta use industrial byproducts for about four-fifths of their fuel needs.
Natural gas (6.45%), oil (9.09%) and electricity (1.45%) make up the balance.
