Canada produced a total of about 6.05 billion GJ
of natural gas in 2010. Although most of this supply was conventional, it's expected that the production of unconventionals such as offshore
gas and coalbed methane (CBM
) will predominate in the future. They're called "unconventional" because they're produced or extracted using techniques other than the traditional gas well method.
Manitoba does not produce any natural gas; it relies on other western provinces (primarily Alberta) to supply its needs.
