Basically we rely on three sources of crude oil for consumption in Canada: conventional, unconventional (oil sands, offshore oil and shale oil) and imported oil.   New Brunswick imports all its oil, and exports refined petroleum products. Click here for its crude oil  statistics.
Conventional and offshore oil is produced from wells. Oil sands are either surface mined or gathered from underground reservoirs.
