Oil in the form of gasoline and diesel is primarily delivered by oil tank trucks from large tank farms to local distribution outlets.
The most familiar distribution outlet is a gas station – at last count, 12,285 of them were operating in Canada.
Heating oil is commonly delivered by tanker truck to homes, apartment buildings, commercial businesses and municipal buildings where it is likely stored in an above-ground storage tank located in the basement or next to the building.  Tanker trucks also deliver diesel to farms, communities and mining or other industrial activities in remote locations, often over ice roads when access by land is possible.
