In Newfoundland and Labrador, about three quarters of all hot water heaters run on electricity, while another 19.70% consist of a storage tank heated with oil, ignited by a pilot light that burns continuously. 
 
On average in 2010, a household's water heating
consumed 12.48 GJ and
emitted 0.29 GHG tonnes.
