Electricity provides 26.69% of the energy consumed by workplaces, shops, recreation centres and public buildings in Ontario.  It powers light fixtures, elevators, pumps and compressors as well as computers, photocopiers and fax machines. Electricity is also used for space conditioning and a few water heaters.
 
In 2010, the commercial / institutional sector
consumed 195,550,300 GJ of electricity and
emitted 6,853,110 GHG tonnes.
