Natural gas is delivered by pipeline.
Local distribution companies (gas utilities) take bulk gas piped to them by wholesalers.
The distributors then pump it into a distribution main (at reduced pressure) and deliver it to service lines connected directly to individual customers.
Ontario was an early developer of natural gas resources.  Commercial production at a gas field near Port Colbourne first came on stream in 1889.
In 2010, pipelines consumed 17,329,540 GJ and emitted 1,059,257 GHGs tonnes.
