Natural gas is widely used throughout Prince Edward Island's industrial sector, representing 0% of its total consumption. 
Much of the natural gas goes to fuel cogeneration plants at large industrial sites. Natural gas has also become the fuel of choice for a growing number of medium sized electricity generating plants in the province, some of which are located onsite at oil sands mining locations.
