Canada produced a total of about 6.05 billion GJ of natural gas in 2010.  Although most of this supply was conventional, it's expected that the production of unconventionals such as offshore gas, shale gas and coalbed methane (CBM) will predominate in the future. They're called "unconventional" because they're produced or extracted using techniques other than the traditional gas well method.

Quebec produced no natural gas in 2010, although it has potential gas reserves. Quebec's suppply of natural gas comes from Canadian sources, primarily located in Alberta.

We export about half of our production to the US. From an American perspective, Canada represents their single largest source of natural gas imports (90% in 2008).
